One Page Poetry Circle — Darien Library
In the four years since Blue Peninsula, poetry circles, in New York City and in Darien, Connecticut, have been an important part of my reading and enjoyment of poetry. A group of readers come together with a single page of published poetry in some way connected to that month’s theme. For a little more than an hour, we read the poems aloud, comment on them in a rather egalitarian and participatory fashion and spend a few moments with the printed guide I’ve put together that highlights an aspect of poetic craft or technique. In the upcoming months in Darien, the Circle Lines printed guide will introduce a poetic form — sonnet, cinquain, ode, terza rima.
Choose a poem, of any form, that relates to the month’s theme — September, Hope; October, Challenge; November, Gratitude; December, Connections — and join us on these Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. at the Darien Library.
Wednesday, September 15 — Hope
Wednesday, October 6 — Challenge
Wednesday, November 3 — Gratitude
Wednesday, December 8 — Connections

“The Great Salvific Power,” my essay forthcoming in Topograph, click Topograph, tells a bit more about the delights of these evenings of poetry read aloud.
Bring a page of published poetry related in some way to the theme, and join in — in either or both locations.
